DDS Training of North Carolina offers national onsite BLS CPR, and ACLS for Dentistry training
programs that specifically address the management of medical emergencies in the dental office. Our BLS and ACLS for
Dentistry programs teach doctors, dental hygienists, and dental assistants how to effectively manage dental medical emergencies as a
team. We offer low stress emergency training in YOUR office, with YOUR equipment, along with YOUR fellow dental staff
members. All of our programs meet or exceed national and state dental licensing requirements for general dentistry
and conscious sedation.
BLS for Dentistry
This BLS Certification for Dentistry course also includes our Dental Emergency Medical Senarios (DEMS) program. Why take
an general BLS course when you can take one specifically designed for dental professionals?
- Our BLS for Dentistry course covers:
-
- Initial Assessment
- Airway Management
- Rescue Breathing (using BVM)
- 1 & 2 Person CPR
- AED
- Foreign Body Airway Obstruction
Our Dental Emergency Medical Senarios (DEMS) program expains how a Emergency Response Team (ERT) can be established in
each dental pratice. In this course dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other dental office personnel learn, through simulated medical
emergency senarios, how they can assist the doctor in the management of the following dental medical emergencies:
-
- syncope (fainting)
- postural hypotension
- allergic reaction & local anesthetic toxicity
- bronchospasm
- hyperventilation
- seizures
- angina pectoris & sudden cardiac arrest
- hypoglycemia & hyperglycemia
- acute adrenal insufficiency
- aspiration of foreign body & vomiting
- cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
The core of our DEMS program is the Medical Emergencies & Treatments course developed by the Institute of Medical Emergency
Preparedness (IMEP). The Academy of General Dentistry has approved this program for up to 12 hours of CE.
- Our BLS for Dentistry meets the 2005 ECC standards set by ILCOR and the American Heart Association for BLS certification
training.
- All of our programs also meet or exceed state and national dental board and Academy of General Dentistry requirements, along
with the recommendations of the American Dental Hygienists' Association and the American Dental Association.
- Our programs use a blended training model that incorporates both distance learning and onsite classroom based training segments.
- Best of all, our programs teach you how to handle medical emergencies in the context of YOUR PRACTICE. You will learn how the doctor,
dental hygienist, dental assistant, and office staff can work together as a team in the event of a dental medical
emergency.
ACLS for Dentistry
This ACLS for Dentistry course includes our Advanced Dental Emergency Medical Scenarios
(DEMS) program.
- Our PALS & ACLS for Dentistry program covers all Advanced Cardiac Life Support topics recommended by the American Heart
Association. In addition to these topics we adapt the program to spend more time on addressing medical emergencies common to dental practices
along with relavant methods of treatment. We minimize the time spent on treatment options that are uncommon in dental emergency situations.
Additionally, we cover topics that are not typically addressed in hospital ACLS courses, yet are ones which dentists need
to know how to address, including syncope, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia, anaphylaxis, diabetes, hypotension, and many more.
- Our PALS & ACLS for Dentistry courses include BLS certification at no additional cost (required by all ACLS
certification programs).
- Training delivered using a blended training model (50% online; 50% classroom based)
- Learn ACLS with fellow dental professionals. Opening our program to dental professionals only allows us to tailor the program
specifically for dental practices rather than having to "cover all the bases" as a typical hospital ACLS class delivered to a mixed
group of nurses, physicians, EMTs, and paramedics would.
Bloodborne Pathogens
- Our bloodborne pathogens meets OSHA annual staff training requirements.*
- Program is developed for employees who have potential for occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials,
and even has supplemental information on airborne pathogens such as tuberculosis.
